I’ve been playing around with my skincare routine since last summer, when I realized that the summer sun and humidity made my skin an absolute dream. I swapped my drug-heavy anti acne treatment gels for moisturizing, radiance boosting creams- and boy am I glad I did. The thing with dealing with acne of any kind is that my first instinct was always to dry out the oils and leave my face with as least moisture as possible. In all actuality this irritated my skin and made my oil glands hyperactive, producing more bacteria and therefore, more breakouts.
I wanted to share with you all my everyday favourite skin care products that have made a world of a difference in my skin. Let’s be honest, no foundation or highlighter will ever come close to what quality skincare products can do.
Note: My skin type is combination, usually gets oiler in the T-zone by the end of the day.
Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Mask
Guerlain is without a doubt one of my favourite cosmetic and skincare brands, which would make sense because they’ve been crafting luxurious and effective products for over 175 years. Fun fact: Guerlain has an impressive resume of firsts, including industry standards like lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, and scientifically based skincare. If you’re a fan of treating yourself to a facial treatment every so often, this mask easily makes you re-think your spa days. The moisturizing mask is applied with a brush, and massaged into the skin for about ten minutes. The process of applying the mask alone is incredibly relaxing and pampering, but the effect on my skin the next morning is stunning. My skin instantly becomes clearer, even, and plump with moisture from within. I treat myself to this mask once a week whilst applying a hair treatment, and the next morning I swear I’m like a new person. [Shop Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale here]
La Mer Eye Concentrate
There’s so many amazing moisturizing eye creams out in the world, but this is the only one I’ve tried that not only moisturizes but visually brightens my undereyes and diminishes dark circles. It’s like sleep and health in a bottle. The concentrate contains an iron-rich, magnetically-charged mineral named hematite, which dramatically dissolves the appearance of dark circles, surface discolorations and unevenness. This is a cult classic, and I strongly urge you to try it at least once in your life. [Shop La Mer Eye Concentrate here]
Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defence
A Allure Beauty 2013 winner, this sunblock is a perfect hybrid between sunblock and tinted moisturizer. It has just the slightest tint which evens out skin tone, whilst increasing skin radiance and protecting you from sun damage. I’ve been using this for the past couple of months on my face before long bike rides in the sun, because as much as I love being tan, I don’t really love having a red nose and broken capillaries on my cheeks. Oh yea, we’re getting sun safe here. [Shop Skinceuticals here]
Clarins Lotus Treatment Oil for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, or an oily T-zone: this will change everything. I apply the oil onto my skin after taking off my makeup and doing a final cleanse, and overnight my face becomes radiant and less oily towards the evening. Truth be told- I was incredibly skeptical of applying oil to a face that seemed to make plenty on it’s own, but fear not, this oil soaks into the skin does not cause acne in the slightest. If anything, it took my skin problems down a notch. The lotus oil is a blend of rosewood, geranium, and lotus extracts and it’s meant to purify, tighten pores, and refine the skin texture. Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Yea I joined the Bioderma cult. This is the only makeup remover I’ve ever used that doesn’t irritate my skin and feel like I’m rubbing alcohol all over my face, and it actually removes all the traces of makeup within minutes. No more multiple cotton pads or additional makeup removing clothes. I’ll keep repurchasing this until I’m so old I don’t care for makeup anymore. So basically forever cause #makeuprules. La Mer Cleansing Gel
I love how light and delicate this gel face wash is, mostly because it’s one of the only ones I’ve tried that doesn’t leave my face feeling tight and dry. I love La Mer because they include these “secret ingredients” that make all the difference in the way your skin feels. This formula features “Miracle Broth”, which is said to infuse skin with precious nutrients, immersing it in moisture and energy. Well, the broth did it’s job! [Shop La Mer Cleansing Gel here]
